The Congo on the map is the wrong Congo. The Democratic Republic of Congo is the country nextdoor, to the right.

What in the world do you folks mean, "only per capita counts"? Fine, I'll found a country with just me and give $300 per year. Now I'm at the top of the list, and I'm clearly doing the most to help in the world.

There are lies, damned lies, and statistics, but sometimes the actual amount of money matters, folks.

Braden,

You said the graph was wrong because the UK contributes 13.91 million. Are you talking pounds or dollars?

The graph is in USD and given the exchange rate, it would make the UK amount seem smaller because the UK currency is worth more. It would therefore take more US currency to match the UK level.

I don't know if I explained this very well I have taken a bit of cold medicine. lol. But I think you get what I'm saying.

I am guessing this does not include personal aid.
Such as Gates or Buffett. Which would push the US donations way into the atmosphere.

The US should donate way less money than it does.
Countries like China, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates should be the top donaters these days

It is amazing the amount of money being funneled by the U.S. and the E.U. to other countries. How much of it is lost. Who monitors the way the money is spent.

After the E.U. stopped funding a radical anti-Israel NGO, yesterday Spain stepped in and filled their shoes. http://bit.ly/1uBPYn

Most aid figures that get reported are as a % of GDP, so it is a measure of what portion of its wealth a country gives, not an absolute number. The US is so high here because it has a huge GDP, its % figure is very small (lower than Canada, for instance).

Also, these OECD numbers to not include military assistance, which would put Israel and Egypt right up near the top.
